It’s been a while since my visit to Guanajuato in central Mexico, just an hour or so from San Miguel de Allende (recently named #1 city to visit in 2013 by Conde Nast Traveler magazine).Over a hundred incredibly well preserved human bodies reside at the local museum. Most of them date back to early 1800s, during which time high burial fees forced many families to simply store their deceased loved ones in a designated building. Due to naturally arid conditions of the high desert some of them withstood the decay process and are still on the morbid display at the Museo de Las Momias de Guanajuato, worth every peso!
